What it is
Intraoral face sculpting massage — explained the way Zhanna explains it.
Buccal massage is a sixty-minute manual protocol where gloved hands reach inside the cheek to address muscles that no topical facial can find — the pterygoid, the deep masseter, the buccinator, and the fascia that lines the interior of the cheek. The technique originates in Eastern European manual sculpting and has been standard in French, Russian, and Eastern European curricula for half a century — the modern method was patented by French practitioners. Its arrival on the American beauty market is recent. Its arrival in Houston, performed by a practitioner who trained for it specifically, is even more recent.
Zhanna flew to Moscow during COVID to add buccal certification to her existing manual technique. The studio has been performing buccal as a primary service since 2022. The work produces structural change — visibly softer nasolabial folds, defined jawline, lifted contour — because it addresses the architecture underneath the skin instead of the surface on top of it.

What to expect
The session, in order.
The sequence below is the typical order of operations. Timings, pressure, and modifications change with the skin — Zhanna adjusts in the room.
- 01
Consultation
Review of the consultation form, including TMJ history, recent dental work, and any prior buccal experience. Zhanna will modify pressure and order based on what you tell her. During the consultation she also teaches at-home techniques to relieve the chewing muscles; the teaching is personalized to each client.
- 02
External warm-up · cervical drainage
Six to eight minutes of external lymphatic drainage to clear the pathway. The buccal work that follows produces fluid movement; the drainage needs somewhere to go.
- 03
Pterygoid release
Gloved access through the cheek to the pterygoid plate. The deep masseter follows. Slow, sustained pressure — never abrupt.
- 04
Buccinator + interior cheek fascia
Twenty minutes of methodical work along the interior cheek wall. Most clients fall asleep around the eighteen-minute mark.
- 05
External myofascial closing
External work along the masseter, temporalis, jaw line, neck, and decolletage to finish the sequence the buccal layer started.
- 06
Closing ritual
Warm cloth, then chilled face mist with serum infusion, moisturizer, and SPF. Hand-mirror moment.
Modalities included
What's in the session.
- Intra-oral pterygoid release
- Masseter release
- External myofascial
Recommended cadence
Six sessions over twelve weeks; then maintenance
Buccal is the rare service where the structural results compound. A single session produces a seventy-two-hour glow. The six-session series produces structural change you can see in standardized photos. After the series, most clients hold the result with a single buccal session every six to eight weeks.

Aftercare
What to do — and avoid — after.
Every Vera Pelle treatment
- Aftercare · Change your pillowcase for the first 24 hours after treatment.
- Pregnancy safety · For pregnant clients, manual technique and massage only — no devices, ever. (LED, micro-current, RF, EMS, electroporation, and the hydradermabrasion machine are excluded.)
Mild internal soreness in the cheek and jaw is normal — the muscles are responding to having been worked. The sensation typically clears within twelve hours.
Chew on the opposite side from where you usually clench. Drink plenty of water. Avoid hard or chewy foods for the rest of the day.
Contours and tension relief are visible immediately and are usually most pronounced over the following two to three days. From a single session the effect fades over days to a few weeks; the structural change builds with repeated sessions. If you want to track progress, photograph in the same light at the same time of day before your first session and before each subsequent one.
Active oral infection or cold sore.
Recent (within ten days) dental surgery or extraction.
Certain anticoagulant medications — disclose on the form.
Pregnancy before 13 weeks — no buccal (intra-oral) massage; buccal resumes at 13+ weeks (second trimester onward).
Frequently Asked
The questions clients actually ask.
Pressure, not pain. The first thirty seconds in each muscle group feel intense; sustained pressure releases the tension within ninety seconds. If anything is sharp, sustained, or distressing, Zhanna stops and adjusts.
Texas esthetic licensing (TDLR §1602.002) authorizes manual work on the face, neck, scalp, and arms. Intra-oral work sits at the boundary; Zhanna performs it under her esthetic license with gloved technique and full consent documentation, as is standard practice at studios offering this service.
No — the technique is muscular, not dental. Clients with veneers, crowns, or active orthodontic appliances are accommodated; disclose the details on the consultation form.
One session produces a clear seventy-two-hour glow and softening. Structural change requires the series — six sessions over twelve weeks is the protocol. Most clients book the Buccal Intensive — Six Sessions package after their first standalone visit.
Both work the surface of the cheek; buccal works the underside. The pterygoid in particular cannot be reached from outside the mouth. That muscle is the reason most chronic jaw tension never fully resolves with external work.
Chronic jaw clenchers, night-grinders, and TMJ holders are among the clients who book buccal most often. The work reaches the pterygoid and deep masseter from inside the mouth, muscles external massage cannot access, and the consultation covers your TMJ history so Zhanna can adjust pressure and order.
