When to book a facial before a gala or holiday event
Houston's gala and holiday season runs October through December. Which facial to book for an event, how many days ahead, and what to skip the final week.
By Zhanna Graeff · November 4, 2026

Houston's fall calendar is long. Gala season opens in October, the holiday parties fill December, and many clients have an event most weekends until New Year. The question clients ask most at this time of year is when to book a facial before an event. This is how I time each treatment.
Three to four weeks out: the corrective work
If your skin is congested, uneven or reacting, start early. The Deep Clean Facial clears congestion, but extractions can leave small marks for a few days, so it belongs weeks ahead, not days. Hydradermabrasion in Idro-Pulizia Clinica is gentle and resurfaces evenly; give the skin a week or more to settle. Any new active, a stronger retinoid or a peel, starts or finishes now. If it cannot start now, it should wait until January.
Three to five days out: the structural work
Buccal and myofascial work change how the face sits. The jaw softens and the lower face lifts. In my treatment room the visible change peaks around seventy-two hours, once any tenderness in the masseter has gone. So The Buccal Lift three to five days ahead is the right window. If you book it the morning of the event, your jaw may still feel tender that evening.
One or two days out, or the morning of: drainage
The European Lymphatic Facial Massage is the facial I recommend closest to the event. It moves fluid out of the face, takes down puffiness under the eyes and along the jaw, and the result shows within hours. There is no redness, no extraction, nothing to cover with makeup. Many clients book it the day ahead or the morning of the event.
If you want the structural work and the drainage in one visit, The Zhanna Method layers lymphatic, gua sha, buccal, myofascial and European face lifting work in ninety minutes, all by hand. Book it two to three days out.
What to skip in the final week
- No new products. A reaction three days before an event may not settle in time.
- No facial waxing or threading in the last 72 hours.
- No peels, no retinoid increases, no at-home acids.
- Go easy on salt and alcohol the night ahead. Both show up as fluid in the face by morning.
For a season of events
If you have several events across November and December, a series makes more sense than single bookings. Il Recupero, four or six lymphatic sessions, can be spaced weekly or every other week through the season.
I see three clients a day, and December books up first, so it is best to book when you RSVP.
Frequently Asked
The questions clients actually ask.
- How many days ahead of an event should I get a facial?
- It depends on the facial. Lymphatic drainage can be done the day ahead or the morning of. Buccal massage is best three to five days out. Extractions and resurfacing belong a week or more ahead, so any marks have time to settle.
- What is the best facial for the day of an event?
- A lymphatic drainage facial. It takes down puffiness within hours and leaves no redness or marks. At Vera Pelle it is the European Lymphatic Facial Massage, sixty minutes.
- Can I get buccal massage the day of an event?
- You can, but three to five days ahead is better. The visible change builds over about seventy-two hours, and the jaw muscles can feel tender for a day.
